The Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles, like other Four Seasons hotels, provides unbeatable service. The staff is clearly well trained and also seems to truly enjoy their jobs. A sense of pride in the hotel and its amenities was clearly visible when I spoke to the reservations clerk. While on the phone, she asked if I had a minute so she could give me a detailed explanation of the property, the location, and the available services. Her attention made me feel well informed prior to my arrival, which was appreciated.

Once I arrived, I witnessed the hotel’s anticipatory service right from the start. While checking in, I asked if the concierge would give me a call, and within five minutes of arriving in my room, the phone rang. I felt cosseted from my first few minutes in the hotel and was definitely impressed by the well executed and incredibly warm arrival service. The “wow” factor continued throughout my stay, and during a particularly wonderful breakfast, the service was so good that I began to wonder if the staff had figured out that I was a secret inspector.

Another fantastic aspect of the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles is how the departments all work together so seamlessly and effectively. When I asked for directions to an area attraction, a gracious staff member suggested I take the hotel car service to avoid parking troubles. Once I stepped into the car, the driver already knew where I was going and didn’t need any further assistance.

The guest rooms and suites range in several sizes, but no matter which one you choose, you’ll enjoy a step-out balcony for added relaxation as well as overstuffed chairs, large beds with crisp, comfortable linens, and high-speed Internet access through your PC or the TV, as well as video games. You’ll also step into a spacious marble bathroom with a tub and shower, TV/radio, and make-up area with chair.

Suites provide even more of an at-home feeling. You’ll have an additional living room area with a sofa, 42-inch plasma TV in your bedroom, and a deep soaking tub near a separate dressing area and large vanity.

My room was styled in a traditional Four Seasons sophistication. It was lovely and spacious, and it was expertly maintained. It felt very fresh and clean and was a restful place to come back to after a long day exploring Los Angeles. I found the artful arrangement of fresh roses and hydrangeas to be an added luxury to an already comfortable space.

The hotel’s outdoor pool is a lovely escape from the urban jungle. Set on the rooftop in a landscaped terrace, there are also six private cabanas for escaping the sun or for enjoying spa treatments. The poolside café refreshes guests with beverages and snacks throughout the day.

Guests can also relax and unwind at the Mobil Four-Star Four Seasons Spa. While it was on the small side compared with other area hotel spas, it was so well equipped and staffed with such kind and caring therapists, that I felt completely renewed. The treatments are available at the spa or in a poolside cabana, and manicures, pedicures, and massages are available as in-room treatments with advance notice. Detoxifying Moor mud mineral baths, rosemary and mint body polishes, and rejuvenating spirulina body wraps are among the many revitalizing therapies available. The fitness center, located in a canopied tent area, makes you feel as though you’re still enjoying the outdoors while fitting in a good workout. Tennis players are able to access the wonderful La Cienega Tennis Center, approximately 15 minutes away by car, while golfers can drive just under an hour to play the lovely greens of Lost Canyon Golf Club.

Shopping on Rodeo Drive is de rigueur while staying at the Four Seasons, and the movie studios of Hollywood make for an interesting afternoon attraction. Los Angeles is home to countless museums and other attractions, and families will find plenty to keep them entertained as well.

Four 18th-century Italian oil paintings take center stage indoors, while the terrace, set amid lush foliage, has seating for 80. The menu focuses on regional ingredients accented with Asian influences; a children’s menu is also available.

Great Italian cooking is the focus at the more casual bistro-style Café. The house specialties change seasonally, but have included such dishes as wild mushroom risotto, linguine with clams, and basil and mascarpone risotto cakes.

Breakfast and lunch may be enjoyed at the casual outdoor Cabana Restaurant, where diners feast on healthy egg white omelets, or decadent cottage cheese and lemon pancakes in the morning and crispy salads or burgers for lunch or an afternoon snack.

The Windows Lounge is open daily, and patrons can hear a special treat of live bands Thursday through Saturday or jazz on Sundays. Specialty martinis, a comprehensive wine list, and delightful small meals are also enjoyed at this lively spot.

I savored terrific food during my stay. Whether I enjoyed a meal in my room or at one of the restaurants, it was consistently delicious, well-presented, and served by a staff of unbelievably attentive, yet never intrusive, servers. I felt the quality dining added to the well-rounded experience that the Four Seasons provides its guests.
