While an entirely man-made development evokes a sterile image, Lake Las Vegas represents an ideal version. Three hundred and twenty acres of desert and hills (formerly occupied by tumbleweeds) have been developed into a mini-Utopia and The Ritz-Carlton Spa is one of the destination’s major successes. Though only seventeen-miles off the strip, the spa feels a million tranquil miles away, especially after wading in hot and cold plunge pools and luxuriating in a massage treatment outside by a waterfall (yes, also man-made). Facial treatments—with True products—are highly advanced (in other words, they actually do something) and range from anti-acne to anti-aging. While the high-end, Italian-style structures may be anything but natural, the spa draws some inspiration from its desert surroundings. For post-sun exposure, try Desert Radiance ($160), which uses natural ingredients to fight nasty sunspots. You’ll be over the moon for the unusual Lunar Rhythms massage ($350), which supposedly takes cues from heavenly cycles. But who cares where the cues come from, when you’re being pampered in an outdoor cabana at night?
