Wolfgang Puck has done it again. With Spago at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea (see), the celebrity chef shows that, despite recent culinary forays into fast food and canned soups, he remains a master of the fine-dining experience. The Spago name, of course, isn’t unique—Puck catapulted to international renowned fame back in 1982 with the first Spago on Sunset Boulevard, and he currently operates three Spago outposts on the mainland: two in California and one in Las Vegas. Each Spago maintains its own identity, and that’s good news for anyone who’s hungry in Hawaii. The décor here revolves around Maui’s spectacular beauty. Custom windows provide spectacular vistas, complemented by the interior’s modern, uncluttered design. There’s even a large covered terrace overlooking the ocean and nearby lava cliffs. The menu also incorporates the best of the islands, fusing traditional Hawaiian tastes and locally sourced ingredients with Asian influences and Puck’s signature California style.
