Ornate, over the top, and brash, Tavern on the Green is the Cher of the New York restaurant scene. Like the one-name singer, it’s still popular after all these years, it’s had a lot of work done, and it’s tacky but loved anyway. If you’re in the mood for a serviceable meal and extra-high prices, go for it; otherwise, you may want to steer clear of this tourist trap. The food is straightforward and fine, and the view of Central Park is romantic, but the restaurant has morphed into more of a theme park than a serious dining destination.
